Irvine, Orange County
Irvine was laid out before it was built. In the 1960s the Irvine Company hired architect William Pereira to plan a new city on its ranch land around a University of California campus, and Irvine incorporated in 1971. The plan grouped homes into villages, each with its own schools, parks and shops, linked by greenbelts and bike trails.
